Maria is delighted to be teaching a week-long relief printmaking class at Sunbury Shores in St. Andrews, New Brunswick.
Relief printmaking with Maria Doering
July 31st – August 4th (Mon-Fri) at 9 am – 4 pm
This course is ideal for beginners as well as experienced printmakers who want a refresher in relief printmaking. Maria is a flexible instructor who adapts easily to the individual students and their skill level. This class will cover relief printing through the use of Linoleum and Komatex as materials. Students will learn all about carving tools, how to use them, mark making in black & white imagery, mixing inks, developing a colour image and its separate layers into a print through reduction and multiple blocks, registration techniques, hand printing and printing on the press. Maria will show examples of her own blocks and prints as well as other artists’ works to inspire the participants.
In this course Maria will work with you to create your own unique relief prints.

Maria to teach workshop series in Truro

Want to try printmaking? This is the perfect class to be introduced to relief printmaking. Students will focus on mark making, textures, patterns and other ways of creating an interesting black and white image to carve into your matrix. By the end of the workshop you will walk away with your own small limited edition of prints.
No previous experience required. Maria is happy to have students of all levels in her class and will make sure it is interesting for everyone involved. It’s a fun activity to do solo or with a friend/family member. All materials and tools will be provided, please bring an apron or old t-shirt, and maybe even an image idea with you.
Maria Doering is a professional artist and passionate printmaker, teaches part-time at NSCAD University and has taught numerous workshops across the province and country.

Join us for another fun day of printmaking at Visual Voice! Monotype is a very experimental and direct process of image creation through the use of printmaking equipment. You will create one-of-a-kind prints by removing ink from a plate with various rags, Q-tips, brushes and found materials. You may create up to 10 different images during this workshop. This workshop is especially beneficial if you enjoy drawing as we will focus on translating your drawing and painting skills into printmaking.
You can come prepared with an image idea or spend the day experimenting with found materials. You do not need previous knowledge of printmaking to participate in this workshop. Please bring an apron or old t-shirt and any thin/flat found materials like dried leaves, thread, paper cut outs. If you can’t think of anything, not to worry, there will be materials supplied as well.
*Includes the use of a press!

Create your own colorful limited edition mini print with artist and printmaker Maria Doering. Reductive Relief Printmaking is a technique where you carve and print multiple color layers from a single matrix block. You can come with your own image ideas for a 4×4 inch – 2 color print or find inspiration during the workshop from many provided images. You can take this workshop following the B&W workshop or as a complete beginner. It will be a fun and interesting day at Visual Voice.

You will not be creating an edition of multiples but instead remove ink from a plate with various rags, Q-tips, and brushes and found materials to create a single print. You may create up to 10 different images during this workshop using multiple colours as well as multiple layers. In this workshop, we will focus and experiment with found materials specifically. You can come prepared with an image idea or spend the day experimenting with found materials with this much more direct and painterly printmaking technique.

Maria is at it again teaching two 7-week courses at the NSCAD School of Extended Studies. Use the professional printmaking facilities to learn something new. This term Maria is going to teach Monotype and Screen printing please find below some information about the two classes. Screen printing is filling up quickly, and there is still much space in Monotype, so if you prefer less crowded classes, Monotype is perfect for you!

Screenprinting
Screen printing, also known as Silkscreen or Serigraphy, is a fun printing technique that doesn’t
take too much set up to use at home. In this course, students will learn how to screen print
through the use of hand-cut stencils. The class will include exposure to different ways of cutting stencils, mixing inks, registering color layers, setting up the screen and printing.

Introduction to Relief Printing
Relief printing, you may know it as Linocut or Woodcut is one of the most accessible and affordable forms of printmaking. Techniques learned in this course can easily be applied and used at home and with various materials. Students will be guided through the process of image development, image transfer to various carving matrices, carving, inking and hand printing. Once comfortable with hand printing, the instructor will introduce the class to printing with a relief printing press. Relief printing can be used for creating anything from
