Maria teaching a workshop at St. FX University

Maria is teaching a one day reductive relief printing workshop at St. FX University in Antigonish with partnership of the Society of Antigonish Printmakers on November 26th. Registration is now open, please call Kate Georgallas at 902-863-0151 or send her an email kbrown@stfx.ca for more information and to sign up for the workshop.
During this all day workshop participants will get an overview of relief printing and a specific focus on the method of Reductive Relief Printmaking. Each participant will carve an image into a matrix material, print the first layer and then carve more from the same block to print the second layer.
The last time I taught at St. FX the workshop was full within a day, so please register as soon as possible!
NSCAD Extended Studies Classes – registration opens Aug. 23

Maria is going to be teaching an Introduction to Relief Printing and a Monotype class at the NSCAD School of Extended Studies. Registration for these classes opens August 23rd.

Monotype
Monotype is a fun and very experimental printmaking technique where instead of printing editions you only create one-of-a-kind pieces. Each week you will learn different approaches ranging from Black & White to multi-coloured and multi layered Monotype prints with the use of various inks, dry media and found objects on paper. No previous experience required. Please bring sketchbook or note pad, pencil, fine point Sharpie marker and an apron or old t-shirt to the first class. Class Limit is 10.

Introduction to Relief Printing
Relief printing, you may know it as Linocut or Woodcut is one of the most accessible and affordable forms of printmaking. Techniques learned in this course can easily be applied and used at home and with various materials. Students will be guided through the process of image development, image transfer to various carving matrices, carving, inking and hand printing. Once comfortable with hand printing, the instructor will introduce the class to printing with a relief printing press. Relief printing can be used for creating anything from
greeting cards to fine art prints. Class Limit is 10.
