Posted May 26, 2017

Maria is included in two group shows running from 27 May to 24 June at the Inverness County Centre for the Arts. Presented by the Nova Scotia Printmakers, the shows together feature over 30 Nova Scotia artists.

EXTREMEs
Farthest from the center or middle; outermost; endmost;
76 prints by 30 members of the Nova Scotia Printmakers exploring extremes in print.

Members of the Nova Scotia Printmakers have brought together works on paper for an exhibition, EXTREMEs, at the Inverness County Centre for the Arts (ICCA) in Inverness, Cape Breton, NS, on display for the month of June. Works explore the theme of extremes either by size, big or small, or by thematic exploration such as weather, politics, or the human experience.
EXTREMEs includes works that range in size from etchings on handmade paper 3.5” x 3.5”, up to a 19’ by 15’ frottage of a building on fabric. Exhibiting large scale prints alongside equally engaging small works will show the extremes that printmakers can go to create artwork. Intricate imagery created entirely using carefully placed metal letterpress ornaments, textiles knit, etched, and printed to transfer the pattern to paper, all alongside carefully rendered images drawn, carved, engraved, silkscreened or etched.

Artists with work in the show include: Tina Arsenault, Sara AvMaat, Bonnie Baker, Diana BaldwinMark Bovey, Diane Cardoso, Cecil Day, Maria Doering, Suzanne Gauthier, Hannah Genosko, Kate Georgallas, Carlos Comez, Bob Hainstock, Dyan Hatanaka, Erin Hollingshead, Carloe Liu, Deborah Maurer, Bob Morouney, Tony Myers, Linda Oickle, David Power, Diane Rosati, Julie Rosvall, Tamsin Sloots, Anna Syperek, Kristina Vermeulen, Sally Warren, and Charley Young

EXTREMEs will fill the main gallery of the Inverness County Centre for the Arts for the month of June, and runs concurrently with the Nova Scotia Printmakers’ curated exhibition Intangible, on display in the outer gallery.

Intangible
Over the last three years printmakers Maria Doering and Julie Rosvall have had the opportunity to organize and hang dozens of printmaking exhibitions as volunteers of the Nova Scotia Printmakers. Both quietly noticed how often printmakers with vastly different imagery and techniques were creating works that naturally fit together in a gallery setting. Small details in form or colour brought a collection together, without any consultation or collaboration happening between the artists working in different parts of the province.

Intangible is a curated exhibition of works in print by nine printmakers, all members of the Nova Scotia Printmakers, ranging from emerging to master printmakers, all women. Each piece within the show explores pattern and texture, and all have that sometimes intangible factor, that natural fit. The prints on display use a variety of fine printmaking techniques, including soft ground etchings, relief prints of found objects, linocut prints, lithography, and solar plate etchings.

Printmakers exhibiting as part of Intangible include Bonnie Baker, Melissa Charbonneau, Cecil Day, Maria Doering, Suzanne Gauthier, Jay Leblanc, Meggie Richards, Julie Rosvall, and Charley Young.

Intangible will fill the outer gallery of the Inverness County Centre for the Arts for the month of June, and runs concurrently with the Nova Scotia Printmakers’ EXTREMEs exhibition, on display in the main gallery.
